Since the pandemic outbreak, Lund International Rotary Club (LIRC) has had its meetings online. The benefits are many; our members can participate from wherever they are which is great as we have a member living in Japan. Also, the opportunity for networking widens even more. The theme for our program during this year is Sustainability, based on the 17 UN Sustainability goals, focusing on four of them; Good Health and Well Being, Quality Education, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and Reduced Inequalities.
In June, LIRC was contacted by Stephanie Rodrigo from the Rotary Club of Capital City in Sri Lanka. She and her colleague Chrispin Leo were interested in joining our meeting and shared some information about their club’s projects. One of them is to help to provide clean water to people in the center of Sri Lanka where the levels of calcium in the water are high. Our global grant student Dana Dedeck and Jing Li from Toastmasters immediately saw the opportunity to connect as they work with drinking water projects. The dialogue is on and is a great inspiration for us all as Rotarians with the purpose to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. Thanks to the digital presence of our club, we established this new relationship with the Rotary club of Capital city in Sri Lanka. Lund International Rotary Club will carry on building sustainability awareness and continue the internalization of our club.
